Introducing the vLite™ innovation — lightening the “load” in load cells The fundamental shape and construction of load cells has barely changed in decades. Even as strain gauge technology has advanced, and applications have grown, the basic solid metal beam has endured. Until now. vLite™ technology, launched this week by VPG Force Sensors, reimagines load cell construction by replacing the solid metal with a hollow beam – halving the weight while maintaining the same reliability, quality, durability and accuracy. Some might ask, why change what works? But here at VPG Force Sensors, we subscribe to Thomas Edison’s approach. As he said: “There’s a way to do it better. Find it.” We found that there is a real market need for a lighter-weight alternative to standard load cells. It’s not just that lightweight load cells are needed in applications such as portable scales. Lower-weight products are also easier to store and ship, which can be a critical consideration in a wide variety of applications given the current challenges in the global supply chain. Furthermore, environmental concerns are driving manufacturers to look for solutions that require less material, reduce waste, and minimize the carbon footprint. The VPG team set out to address those needs in the indoor legal-for-trade (LFT) market and vLite technology was the solution. vLite products are made of a hollow beam of aviation-grade aluminum rather than a solid bar, and therefore are approximately 50% lighter in weight than comparable load cells. The reduced weight can reduce costs in storing and shipping and better address the specifications of portable applications. In addition, the hollow beam design reduces the product’s carbon footprint by minimizing raw material usage and production waste and reducing the energy needed for shipping, recycling, and disposal. Load cells made with vLite technology are ideal for legal-for-trade retail applications like supermarket checkout scales, back-office scales, and postal scales; medical applications such as fluid weighing and monitoring, incubators for premature babies, hospital beds, and infant scales; and packaging, bottling, and filling machines. They offer renowned VPG quality and a 2-year warranty, minimizing production risks and providing peace of mind for machine builders. There are already several vLite load cell models available off-the shelf. Additionally, vLite technology can be implemented in any single-point load cell and in customized designs. Our unique EDOC corrosion-proof coating for load cells, provides long-lasting anti-corrosion protection for load cells. Here’s the story behind the innovation and how it’s been proven for 15 years.
What’s in a name? VPG Transducers becomes VPG Force Sensors   For decades, VPG Transducers and its subsidiary brands have been known for highly accurate and reliable weighing and force sensing solutions. Our product portfolio spans the widest range of load cells, transducers and solutions for everything from commodity weighing to specialist OEM applications. Recognizing that our small sensors have a huge impact, we decided it’s time for a new name and brand that better reflect the strength and potential we bring to our customers. From today, we are VPG Force Sensors. Our new name provides an umbrella brand for all our well-known product brands – Tedea-Huntleigh, Revere, Sensortronics and Celtrom. We will continue selling all products under the relevant names, as part of the VPG Force Sensors brand family.

Meeting needs. Exceeding expectations.

Our vast load cell and strain gage expertise means we deliver the most advanced sensor technology available for measuring weight, torque and pressure. Our comprehensive product portfolio includes bonding strain gages, analogue weigh indicators, load cells,  digital weighing solutions and instruments.

Each product is designed to lower cost of ownership, install easily, operate intuitively, and deliver reliable quality and performance even in harsh environments.

Our history

In the 1950s, Dr. Felix Zandman discovered and developed the Bulk Metal® Foil resistors concept. In 1962, Dr Zandman set up Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., and saw the first production batch of Bulk Metal® Foil resistors roll out of the production doors. Bulk Metal® Foil’s precise and stable characteristics quickly evolved and resulted in many foil resistor variations. Vishay Intertechnology continued to expand, bringing more success and more development to the company.

Building upon this success and using foresight, Vishay Intertechnology acquired three leading force sensor companies in 2002: Celtron, Sensortronics and Tedea-Huntleigh.  In 2005, Revere was acquired. In 2008, these four acquisitions became the foundation for the birth of the force sensor division called VPG Transducers.

The unification of the four brands under VPG Force Sensors immediately created one of the largest load cell and transducer manufacturers in the world. Today, VPG Force Sensors continues to reach out to the world with its innovative and quality products.
